11/14/21 Worship Service and Sermon: God’s Grace Toward Insiders and Outsiders - Jonah 1:1-16

11/14/2021 Worship Service and Sermon from Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA. Worship Leader: Steve Boyer Sermon: David Royes Scripture: Jonah 1:1-16 Title: God’s Grace Toward Insiders and Outsiders Key words: Missions, Disobedience, Grace, Mercy Insights: God is trying to get the attention of a Gentile nation that is heading toward destruction (showing grace and mercy to a people who "don't know their right from their left"). To do this, he tells Jonah, a prophet of Israel, to go to Ninevah, the capital of Assyria, a nation that had been a source of torment for Israel for many years. Jonah is not on board with God's plan, so he runs in the opposite direction. Every step he takes away from God is a step down. He goes down from the mountainous region of his hometown to Joppa on the coast. He boards a ship for Tarshish and goes down below deck. He will later ask to be thrown overboard to stop the raging storm, where he will be swallowed by a "great fish" and taken further down into the depths. God shows his mercy and grace not only toward the Ninevites, but also toward the pagan mariners and his own prophet.
