11/28/21 Worship Service and Sermon: The Good Samaritan - Luke 10:25-37
11/28/21 Worship Service and Sermon from Brick Lane Community Church in Elverson, PA.
Worship Leader: Matt Lambert
Sermon by: Pavel Bugriyev
Title: The Good Samaritan
Scripture: Luke 10:25-37
The context is a dialog between Jesus and a lawyer in which the lawyer asks two questions:
Question 1: What must I do to inherit eternal life?
This is not a serious question on the lawyer's part. He means to test Jesus, seeking to trap Him in His words.
Question 2: Who is my neighbor?
When Jesus's response forces him to confront his inability to perfectly keep God's law ("love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself"), the antagonistic attorney attempts to save face rather than admit his need for saving grace.
Loving God
All your heart (in Hebrew, Lev) is the center of one's physical, intellectual, and emotional being
All your soul (in Hebrew, Nephesh) is one's entire being.
All your strength (in Hebrew, Meod) is every thought, every body movement, every word, every muscle contraction, every purchase, and every opportunity God provides.
Loving your neighbor as yourself
Every man, woman, and child (this would include enemies)
The bar is higher than we can reach.
Trust in Jesus to do through you what he has done for you.
